What is a TAPA certificate?
Let’s start with a clear definition of TAPA. TAPA stands for Transported Asset Protection Association and is a security standard aimed at reducing theft of (transport) cargo. With a TAPA certification, you demonstrate as a transporter or shipper that your fleet, warehouse, or distribution center is well secured. Additionally, it provides guidelines to standardize the security level. Many international companies require you to have the appropriate TAPA certification.
Why do you need a TAPA certificate?
But why was such a TAPA certificate created in the first place? This is because cargo theft and the loss of high-value and pharmaceutical goods have been increasing in recent years. The TAPA certificate aims to limit the loss of goods in the transportation chain.
The requirements for transporting the aforementioned goods are becoming increasingly stringent, leading more shippers and carriers to request such a TAPA certificate. Not only does having a TAPA certificate demonstrate that security is in place; additionally, the cargo is preventively protected throughout the supply chain against cargo theft. This allows you to differentiate yourself from the competition because with a TAPA certificate in hand, you can demonstrate that you have the right level of security quality.
